Serial Cable

A serial cable is mainly used for device communication allowing connected devices to send messages to each other. These serial cables consist of many connectors ranging from the widely known 9 Way D to the 25 way D. The connectors are known as a D way due to their shape which looks like a letter “D”. The cable is also called RS-232 or Null modem cable and was a method used for transferring data from one terminal to another via a serial port without the use of a modem based on the RS-232 standard.

A serial port enables external modems to connect to a PC or network router via a serial cable. The term "serial" signifies that data sent in one direction always travels over a single wire within the cable. The prevailing standard for traditional serial port communications historically has been RS-232. Later standards are RS-422 and RS-485 which support longer connection distances and are often used in EPOS and manufacturing installations. These serial ports and cables are the same used for PC keyboards and other computer peripheral devices.

Lindy provides a selection of serial cables including Apple Mac serial cables and a large selection of RS-232 cables for PCs.
