Firewire Cable

FireWire, also known as DV, iLink or IEEE 1394 is a personal computer serial bus interface standard mainly used for digital audio and video transfer, offering high-speed communications and isochronous real-time data services.

The FireWire interface is available in two different specifications: IEEE1394a or FireWire 400, and IEEE1394b or FireWire 800.

FireWire 800 ensures even greater safety when hot-swapping devices. FireWire 800, an implementation of the IEEE 1394b standard, doubles the throughput of the original FireWire 400 technology and increases the maximum distance. A Firewire 800 connection supports many new types of cabling and is capable of transferring data at 800 Mbps, which is twice the speed of the original specification.

FireWire repeater cables allow a device e.g. DV Camcorders, printers, scanners, cameras to be connected to one end of the cable while the other end connects to the FireWire cable you received with your device which in turn connects to the computer. FireWire Repeater cables allow further connection distances than the standard maximum FireWire distance of 4.5m
