Haydon Bridge High School Chooses LINDY for Compact Connection to Windows MultiPoint Server

Make savings with this low cost, easy to manage solution for multiple workstation installations

We are pleased to announce that Haydon Bridge High School has chosen the LINDY USB User Client to provide a cost effective solution for running workstations on Windows MultiPoint Server and to expand its computer/pupil ratio in classrooms that traditionally have not had PCs.

“Laptops in classrooms have proved to be expensive to update and not as robust to student use as we would have wished,” says Gerry Morton, eLearning Coordinator of Haydon Bridge High School. “But deploying Windows MultiPoint Server and workstations had teachers worried that a sizeable chunk of their desk real estate would be taken over by computer equipment, particularly in subjects that have not traditional been IT heavy such as history, modern languages or food technology. The discrete size of the LINDY box and its ability to bolt onto a thin TFT monitor has enabled us to allay these fears and make the idea of a ‘hybrid classroom’ a success.”

Haydon Bridge High School considered other options for connecting the workstations to the Windows MultiPoint Server that enables up to ten clients to connect to a single host computer and still receive the full Windows desktop experience including individual logins. This included installing triple head graphics cards and directly attaching mice/keyboards via USB, but a trial revealed that many stations ‘forgot’ their connection to the server as part of a USB chain. The school also considered a competitor’s product, but chose LINDY, despite a slight increase in cost, because the placement of ports and VESA mounting provided an overall neater solution.

A simple and cost effective way for educational institutes to install multiple workstations, the LINDY USB User Client connects a workstation to the Windows MultiPoint Server via a single USB cable. Featuring four USB 2.0 ports for connecting a keyboard, mouse and other USB peripherals such as a pen drive or printer, it also has a VGA port and microphone and stereo speaker sockets to deliver a full multimedia experience. The unit’s compact, low profile design allows for it to be placed flat, stood vertically using the supplied stand or fixed to the VESA mounting points on the back of a monitor.

“We have also been very impressed with the speed of response from LINDY in answering queries and in delivering the products to us and would recommend LINDY to anyone looking to investigate WMS as a solution,” concludes Morton.
